Brighter Environment started life as an exciting and aspirational social enterprise project in partnership with Young Hackney at the Woodberry Down Estate. Woodberry Down is known as an economically disadvantaged area and has recently commenced a 20 year housing and facilities regeneration project. The young people who are directors of BE live on or around the Woodberry Down Estate.
The social enterprise was incorporated as a Community Interest Company in October 2013 and commenced its first cleaning contract in December 2014 after winning a contract to clean the Dawes Road Business Hub in Fulham which is owned and operated by SOBUS. They were also awarded a contract to clean the PwC’s Social Enterprise Business Hub at Moore London in January 2105, which is the current location of Social Enterprise UK and the School of Social Entrepreneurs’. The venture recruits from, and works with employability agencies within East and South East London to access long term unemployed people.
